My name is Thokozile Nyathi, known as Thoko, and I am a passionate and experienced Live-in Carer and Support Worker with over 15 years of hands-on experience in the care sector. I truly love what I do—caring gives me the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives, whether I’m supporting someone in their own home, in a care home, or in a hospital setting. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my clients happy, comfortable, and well looked-after in their space.
My journey in care began over 15 years ago when I started volunteering to support people who are blind. Since then, I have worked across live-in care, care homes, residential homes, and support work. I have gained extensive experience caring for individuals with a range of conditions, including dementia, Parkinson’s (which makes up most of my experience), strokes, cancer, brain injuries, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and eating disorders.
I specialise in mobility assistance, palliative care, and end-of-life support. I’m also trained in taking blood pressure readings and supporting clients with their medication safely. My duties have included full personal care, dressing, cooking and preparing meals, organising and facilitating activities, incontinence care, catheter care, stoma care, medication prompting and administration.
I approach every aspect of my work with patience, compassion, and calmness. I always take time to listen and understand each individual’s unique needs. Treating others with dignity and respect is at the heart of my care.
Personally, I am a warm, friendly, and naturally cheerful person. I take pride in being reliable, hardworking, respectful, and a good listener. I enjoy cooking, reading, shopping, and keeping a clean and organised home. When I get the chance, I love going on holiday—it helps me recharge and return to my work with even more energy and enthusiasm.
I feel proud of the work I do and the relationships I build with my clients. Supporting others to feel safe, comfortable and valued is not just my job—it’s my calling.
