My name is Peninah Benjamin and I’ve been working in care professionally for over seven years.
I’ve spent four of those years in care homes and more recently, I’ve been working as a live-in carer, supporting clients with dementia and elderly individuals who require dedicated, one-to-one care. I specialise in providing companionship, mobility assistance, and palliative care, and I pride myself on being a compassionate, attentive, and calm presence in the lives of the people I support.
Before I started working in care, I always had a strong feeling care was my true calling. Listening to friends who worked in care speak so passionately about their work, I felt like I was missing out on something truly meaningful. When I was made redundant from a previous role, I took the opportunity to care for my own grandchild full-time. It was a decision that opened my heart even further, and once she began nursery, I knew it was time to follow what felt like my true path. I haven’t looked back since.
I love what I do. I believe care isn’t just about helping with tasks—it’s about really listening, building trust, and offering support in a way that respects each person’s choices and dignity. I’m proud to hold a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care and have completed the Care Certificate. I’m someone who keeps a level head in emergencies, and I know how to pick up on the small signs that something might not be right. I want every person I care for to feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for—not just as a client, but as a person.
In my free time, I enjoy going to the cinema, watching films at home, and spending time with friends and colleagues. People often describe me as bubbly and full of positive energy—something I bring into my work every day. I believe care should be personal, heartfelt, and consistent, and I feel very fortunate to be able to do a job I truly love.
