I have 20 years experience in the care industry and have worked in various settings including care homes, hospitals, domiciliary and live in settings. Working in care has given me the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and learn their life experiences, the challenges challenges they face and have the honour to assist them in overcoming these challenges. I have experience caring for elderly clients across the settings above and some of the conditions I have experience are, but not limited to dementia, strokes, Parkinsons, palliative care, heart and lung conditions, physical disabilities and mobility issues. I have also got experience supporting younger individuals with learning difficulties, autism, cerebral palsy, dysphagia, epilepsy, acquired brain injury and challenging behaviour.
I am competent in providing assistance with all aspects of care including medication administration, personal care, managing a house, mobility support and companionship. I have faced many challenges in my career as a carer but have used these experiences to build my skill and knowledge base and apply what I have learned to clients following.
I enjoy working both as part of a team and by myself and am able to adapt to both. I possess good problem solving skills, great written and verbal communication and an awareness of my role as a carer- enabling me to know when I need to involve other members of the multi-disciplinary team it takes to provide all round care for someone. I am dependable, empathetic, caring, organised, a good listener and flexible- all key skills for roles as a care giver.
