Salisbury sits at the heart of a largely rural part of south Wiltshire. In its assessment of Wiltshire, the CQC found that about half of residents live in towns and villages with fewer than 5,000 people. The share aged 65 and over is also higher than the England average. Wiltshire Council expects the over-65 population to grow by 43% by 2040. For many families, that means an older relative living in Wilton, Downton, Tisbury or Amesbury, or in a village on the edge of Salisbury Plain. The nearest family may be a long drive away. Live-in care puts one carer in the home, so day-to-day support doesn’t depend on visit times across country lanes.

One that suits both you and your family's needs
When someone leaves Salisbury District Hospital, run by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, the trust must involve them and their family carers in discharge planning. That duty has applied to NHS trusts since 1 July 2022, and the trust’s carer’s charter says carers should be part of decisions about the discharge date. Local NHS planning sits with the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board. Wiltshire Council also runs Wiltshire Support at Home, a short to mid-term service for personal care and daily tasks after a hospital stay, which the CQC rated Good in 2025. If your family needs longer-term support at home, live-in care can be planned around the discharge date, subject to carer availability.
As a CQC regulated carer provider, we can arrange full costs and available live-in carers for:

Hometouch's managed live-in care service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and rated Good. Inspectors assess how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led a service is, and the full report is available on the CQC website.

Understanding whether another provider can better match your needs
Wiltshire Council decides whether it contributes to someone’s care through a free needs assessment, followed by a means-tested financial assessment. Anyone can ask for a needs assessment. The council’s Financial Assessment and Benefits team then looks at capital, income and regular outgoings. If someone’s capital is above £23,250, they’re treated as a self-funder and pay the full cost of their care. Savings between £14,250 and £23,250 may mean a contribution towards it. The same team can also check whether someone is entitled to welfare benefits. If you’re arranging live-in care privately, a Hometouch care expert can give you a clear breakdown of costs before you decide.
