Gwynedd stretches from the Llŷn Peninsula to Eryri and the coast between. It had roughly 117,400 residents at the 2021 Census, down about 3.7% since 2011, while the median age rose from 42 to 45. About 64.4% of residents aged three and over could speak Welsh, around 73,560 people, against 17.8% across Wales.
For many families, the language someone is most comfortable in matters as much as the care itself, so it’s worth raising when you choose a carer. Live-in care keeps one carer in the home, so a parent can stay in the community they know.

Wales has health boards, not integrated care boards. Gwynedd is served by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which runs Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and community hospitals including Ysbyty Eryri in Caernarfon, Ysbyty Alltwen in Tremadog and Bryn Beryl in Pwllheli. Hospitals in Wales use a Discharge to Recover and Assess approach. Someone can leave once they’re medically ready, and longer-term assessments happen after they’re home. Intermediate care and reablement are generally free and usually last up to about six weeks. Family carers can also ask the council for their own assessment. Hometouch offers a two-week carer trial, so a family can see whether a live-in carer is the right fit before committing.
As a CQC regulated carer provider, we can arrange full costs and available live-in carers for:
Dementia or any other condition-specific care
Postoperative or any other injury-related care
Overnight, companionship or disability care
Hometouch's managed live-in care service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and rated Good. Inspectors assess how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led a service is, and the full report is available on the CQC website.

Understanding whether another provider can better match your needs
Wales has its own rules for paying for care. Gwynedd Council must carry out a financial assessment before it charges for care it arranges. For care at home, the Welsh Government sets a weekly maximum charge, and the council must leave a set amount for daily living costs. Anyone who thinks a charge is wrong can ask for a review. The weekly maximum changes, usually each April, so check the current figure with the council. To see how live-in care could fit your family’s budget, start with a call to Hometouch.
