I started working in care as a disability support worker in Australia. I worked in residential homes and took care of people with varying disabilities. My role involved dressing, preparing breakfast, organising medication, arranging activities, and driving and collecting clients. Afterwards I volunteered in a children's hospital in Dublin where I engaged the children in fun activities. The most rewarding part of this job was being able to see the kids smile even though they were experiencing an illness.
Currently, I am studying to be an occupational therapist. The area I worked in was inpatient neurology where my focus was on helping the children participate in their activities of daily living. My most recent experience is in a community in-patient rehab hospital. Here, my focus was on helping patients to get back to their level of function prior to their illness. The sense of fulfillment I gain from seeing patients progress is indescribable. I gained invaluable experience with people with dementia and I witnessed the importance of ensuring they are stimulated. This involved taking part in a game of cards or a gardening activity.
I am a compassionate person and caring for people makes me very happy. I love to make people's days a little better by providing them with the best care possible, but also by helping them to do things independently. I believe my ability to make anyone feel at ease makes me a good carer.
I love going to the movies and sports, mostly running and swimming. I also really enjoy travelling to and exploring new places. I am available on evenings and in weekends only. If you like my profile, please send me a message and we can get in touch to discuss your needs and hours!
