About Mkhululi M.

I have been doing care work since 2009 when I started live in care. In this time I have looked after many different people with many different conditions but there is one thing that connects them all- their drive to live as close to an independent life as they can. This, in turn, is something I base my whole way of working on and I make sure the focus is on what a person can do, rather than skills they may have lost. I believe this is vital in keeping someones morale high and this directly effects their overall wellbeing, putting them in a positive mindset, contributing to better health and improving relationships with others. I will spend time working with the person to set realistic goals, establish what skills need to be built on and where they hope to be in the future and do my best to enable that. I have experience helping people that use mobility aids, assisting those that can't move independently and helping people get back on their feet after an accident or illness. Most of the people I have looked after have had dementia or cognitive impairment so I am well equipped with strategies and ideas to support people through difficult or distressing times. I also have experience in Palliative care and possess the personal qualities and social awareness to be able to support the person and their loved ones to feel at peace with the inevitable. I am excellent at timekeeping and sticking to routines but can also adapt when needed and change plans last minute- a vital skill in care work. I am comfortable liaising with other healthcare professionals to ensure the person is getting all the help they need.
