I have worked as a live-in carer since 2005. Most of my clients had spinal cord injuries and I have also worked with clients who had other medical conditions like Friedreich’s ataxia, early onset dementia and MND. My duties were comprised of manual handling, hoisting, bowel management, administration of medication, including insulin pen, PEG feeding, changing pads, hygiene, light household duties, laundry, driving, shopping and companionship. One of my clients, I helped care for their dog with taking it for walks, feeding and washing.
I love my job. My client's well-being and contentment is my first priority. I am always interested in learning new skills. I enjoy taking clients out of their house for walks in parks, shopping, eating out, going to cinemas, theatres or museums based on what the client prefers. When a client is housebound, I like to make their time pass quickly and more enjoyable by playing games and quizzes with them, watching TV together, talking or preparing meals together.
My hobbies are walking, swimming, chatting, reading and going for coffee with friends.
I am afraid I can only undertake live-in care jobs for no less then one week.
