Oxford is a younger city than the county around it. At the 2021 Census, it had about 162,100 residents, and about 12% were aged 65 or over. Across Oxfordshire’s four rural districts, the figure was about 20%. The county’s over-65 population grew by about 25% between 2011 and 2021, and the over-85s are projected to rise by about 31% between 2021 and 2031. For many families, that means arranging care for a parent in a village or market town across Oxfordshire, with the family based in the city or further afield. Live-in care brings the support to the parent’s home, so nobody has to move to be near it.

Oxford’s hospitals, including the John Radcliffe, the Churchill and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, are run by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which also runs the Horton General in Banbury. Local NHS planning sits with NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board. Oxfordshire uses a discharge-to-assess model. People can leave hospital once they’re medically fit, their care needs are assessed afterwards, and the county council funds most short-term reablement.
If your family wants longer-term support in place, Hometouch can start with a custom care plan that a clinical manager reviews regularly, so care keeps pace as needs change, subject to carer availability.
As a CQC regulated carer provider, we can arrange full costs and available live-in carers for:

Hometouch's managed live-in care service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and rated Good. Inspectors assess how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led a service is, and the full report is available on the CQC website.

Understanding whether another provider can better match your needs
Oxfordshire County Council reassesses what someone contributes to their care each April. If someone doesn’t share their finances, the council assumes they can pay the full cost. The national upper capital limit is £23,250, and above it someone usually pays for their own care. Savings between £14,250 and £23,250 may mean a contribution. People who aren’t eligible for council-funded support can still ask the council to help them arrange care.
